Iran today started up its first nuclear power plant in the coastal town of Bushehr after years of preparation, Iranian Atomic Energy Organization announced today. Uploading of uranium fuel rods have now been completed or in other words the core of Bushehr reactor has started its operation, which could take about two weeks to gain enough power to run the steam generators.Bushehr is a 1000 MW power plant and its electricity will join the national grid soon. 

Iranian and Russian technicians have spend the last several months checking all the safety factors for the power plant making sure they pass international safety standards.’The loading of fuel-rod assemblies into the core started at the Bushehr nuclear power plant on April 8,’ the statement by Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said, in a report by FNA.Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoon Abbasi told reporters, ‘…the important point in any given country's nuclear industry is the high safety level of its installations compared with the other facilities and installations of that country.’

In spite of years of pressure by world powers to prevent Iran from becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, the ancient Middle Eastern nation has succeeded in overcoming all of the obstacles. Today, Iranian nuclear experts have the knowledge and technology to engage in all aspects of nuclear technology from mining uranium fuel to enrichment. Bushehr’s completion will greatly speed up the country’s nuclear technology in the years to come.
