Syria asked the International Red Cross on Thursday to intercede with the countries that support, finance and equip the armed groups in order to end violence, which is bleeding the country.
As part of its mission in Syria, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) should ask the countries that support and finance terrorism to stop arms supply operations in order to stop the bloodshed, said Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad to the president of that agency, Jakob Kellenberger, in a meeting in Damascus.
Mikdad, who is responsible for international collaboration, and Kellenberger reviewed the details of cooperation between the Syrian government and the ICRC, and both sides agreed that mutual trust was key to the benefits achieved in one year of joint work in humanitarian aid.
The ICRC president thanked Syrian authorities for their support and facilities provided to the mission of his organization, and expressing the hope that this collaboration will increase in order to provide more humanitarian aid and logistics services.
As part of his tour, Kellenberger visited the southern city of Dara, 101 kilometers from Damascus, where he assessed with local authorities the humanitarian needs of the province, which, like Idleb, Homs and Hama, has been the most affected by armed violence and terrorism.
